When following this build plan, the end result should give you speakers that will have the following approximate specifications:
Drive Units:
- Tweeters: Peerless XT25SC90-04 Ring Radiator Tweeter
- Woofer: Silver Flute W14RC25-08 5.5″ Woofer Wool Cone 8 Ohm
Enclosure Description:
- Sealed box system
Frequency Response:
- -3dB at 80Hz and ±3dB up to 40000Hz on reference axis
Sensitivity:
- Approximately 87dB
Impedance:
- 8 Ohm
Recommended Amplifier Power:
- 30 – 120W into 6 to 8 Ohms

- (W x H x D): 365 mm x 230 mm x 158 mm
For approximately $170 plus the cost of wood and a few other parts, you can build yourself a very good set of left and right surround speakers. These speakers use a forward firing 5 inch woofer and two tweeters firing in a bi-pole configuration towards the side at a 45 degree angle. These speakers will work best mounted to the wall at approximately 1 meter above ear level, and approximately 10 degrees behind your optimal seating position.
