Description
This high-end 2-Way Stereo Speaker set was designed around the Punktkilde 6.5 inch Carbon-Pulp Cone woofer and a 1 inch Aluminium Dome tweeter in a rear slot ported bass reflex enclosure. The goal was to have a premium quality speaker with premium quality parts. The Punktkilde drivers are surely very good and perform with low distortion and overall very flat frequency responses out of the box. We recommend that you use an amplifier that can handle an 8 Ohm load and is rated to produce at least 30 Watts per channel. When following this build plan, it can easily be built with everyday woodworking tools and by someone that does not have advanced woodworking skills. The construction follows butt joints. Finishing the Birch-plywood is up to you and you can follow my build exactly, or opt for a veneer finish, or even a solid wood enclosure, as long as you stick to the dimensions of the front baffle, the placement of the drivers on the baffle, and the same enclosure volume.
When following this build plan, the end result should give you speakers that will have the following approximate specifications:
Drive Units:
- Tweeter: Punktkilde AUGDL0003-JN05 1” Dome Tweeter
- Woofer: Punktkilde AUGWL0016-JN03 6,5” Carbon Pulp Woofer
Enclosure Description:
- Bass Reflex box system
Frequency Response:
- -3dB at 45Hz and ±3dB up to 20000Hz on reference axis
Sensitivity:
- Approximately 89dB
Impedance:
- 6 Ohm (Nominal)
Recommended Amplifier Power:
- At least 30W per channel into 8 Ohms
Dimensions:
- (W x H x D): 210 mm x 351 mm x 303 mm
The Punktkilde drivers are very high quality and their price reflects this. This is not a budget build, but the result will be very good indeed. Soundstage and imaging is excellent and the vocals are very neutral with a clear high end that is detailed and will not become fatiguing over time. Put them on solid speaker stands and they will give you a solid bass response that is not boomy and sounds just right.
